Steph Curry details why rookie Yaxel Lendeborg is ‘full package' for Warriors

In the wake of a truly standout performance against the formidable Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg is drawing high praise from none other than team cornerstone Steph Curry. The seasoned star highlighted Lendeborg's remarkable composure and comprehensive skill set, underscoring the rookie's immediate potential as a significant asset to the team. This burgeoning talent has quickly captured the attention of fans and analysts alike, signaling a bright future for the franchise.

Lendeborg, the Warriors' No. 11 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, demonstrated a 'full package' performance, earning accolades from both Curry and head coach Steve Kerr following a decisive 134-114 victory over the Nuggets on Monday night at Ball Arena. His impressive stat line in just his fourth NBA game has solidified his place as a player to watch, injecting a fresh wave of excitement into the Bay Area's beloved basketball team. This early success speaks volumes about the dedication and hard work that define the journey of a young athlete striving for excellence.

A Rookie's Remarkable Ascent

The Monday night clash against the Denver Nuggets was more than just another game; it was a coming-out party for Yaxel Lendeborg. In a performance that belied his rookie status, Lendeborg recorded an impressive 31 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists. This multifaceted contribution was pivotal in the Warriors' 134-114 triumph, showcasing exactly why the team invested their No. 11 overall pick in him during the 2026 NBA Draft.

Following the game, two-time MVP Steph Curry, speaking with NBC Sports' Robbie Hummel, couldn't contain his admiration for the young forward. Curry meticulously listed the qualities that have stood out to him: "His composure. I mean, he just came off of an NCAA championship run. He's just got composure, feel. His size on the court; he's a matchup problem. He's never really in a hurry and he's starting to see the pictures really well. Distributing, being aggressive, getting to the free-throw line, offensive rebounding. Kind of the full package. So, we want him to continue to play aggressive." Such high praise from a future Hall of Famer is a testament to Lendeborg's immediate impact and maturity.

Lendeborg's influence was particularly evident in the first half, where he led the team with 15 points on 12 shot attempts, while Curry himself had just three points on one field goal attempt. This early offensive surge allowed the Warriors to establish control and demonstrated Lendeborg's willingness and ability to shoulder a significant scoring load. His presence on the court provided a crucial balance, allowing the entire team to thrive.

Beyond scoring, Lendeborg's impact on the boards was undeniable. His game-high 12 rebounds impressively outpaced Denver's triple-double machine Nikola Jokić, who finished with seven. Four of Lendeborg's rebounds were on the offensive end, directly contributing to the Warriors' 23 second-chance points. This hustle and determination are hallmarks of a player committed to every facet of the game, embodying the spirit of teamwork and relentless effort.

Furthermore, Lendeborg showcased his burgeoning playmaking abilities, driving deep into the paint and either kicking the ball out to open shooters or dumping it off to cutting teammates. His six assists were the second-highest on the team, trailing only veteran Draymond Green. Three of these assists came in the crucial fourth quarter while Curry rested, helping the Warriors seal the win and allowing their superstar to conserve energy for future battles. This ability to facilitate under pressure speaks volumes about his basketball IQ and leadership potential.

Coach Steve Kerr echoed Curry's sentiments, telling reporters after the win in Denver, "Basically, in all the critical moments of the game, we just put the ball in his hands. And for a rookie to be that advanced already, it's extremely rare." This trust from both the team's superstar and its championship-winning coach underscores the profound impression Lendeborg has made in such a short time. It highlights a rare blend of talent, poise, and an innate understanding of the game that promises a remarkable career ahead.
